Sample service

The sample service lets you try out enabling a service, a trial, metering and billing, without real work being done or real data being touched. Its tools are declared the same way as the real tools they stand in for.

It offers a trial, and it can also be enabled in full and billed per use.

Its tools

  • sample_echo returns a fixed payload. It only reads and changes nothing. Each call is charged as one tool call (tool-call). The charge is billing, not a change to your account.
  • sample_work stands in for a tool whose work changes things, so it is declared as a tool that changes things. The work is pretend, though, and nothing it does is kept. Give it {"units": N} and it performs up to N units, but never more than your work cap. It is charged per unit actually performed (tool-call).
  • sample_getlargeresponse returns numbered lines of filler text. It only reads and changes nothing. The answer is deliberately long, longer than a typical response-size limit. Each call is charged as one tool call (tool-call).

Its setting

services.sample.work-cap is the most units one sample_work call may perform.
